What to Pack for Hajj: A Practical Checklist

Al Hajun Team · Apr 10, 2026 · 1 min read

The days of Hajj are demanding. A well packed bag keeps you comfortable through Mina, Arafah and Muzdalifah.

Hajj asks more of the body than Umrah. The days in Mina, the standing at Arafah and the night at Muzdalifah reward anyone who has packed thoughtfully.

Bring two sets of ihram garments. One will be in use while the other is washed and dried, and having a spare removes a great deal of worry.

A small backpack is essential for the days of the rites. It should carry water, a light mat, sunscreen, your medication, a power bank and your identification. Keep it light, because you will carry it a long way.

Unscented toiletries are required while in ihram. Pack unscented soap, shampoo and petroleum jelly, which helps prevent chafing during long walks in the heat.

A refillable water bottle, a wide cap or umbrella and rehydration sachets make the daytime hours in Mina and Arafah considerably more bearable.

Bring a money belt or pouch worn under clothing for your passport copy, cash and hotel card. Keep the originals with your coordinator or in the hotel safe as advised.

Finally, pack a small notebook. Many pilgrims want to record supplications and reflections during the days of Hajj, and few regret having done so.
